We should look into getting Joey Gathright OF for the Kansas City Royals. He is in KC whats to play for? And he is really quick and a good bat, not great but good. He is also a good fielder and the Royals wont mind cause they play DeJesus over him. This would be good cause Alou is old and always injured and Tatis is good, but Gathright would be good to have.
We should also look for a replacement in our starting rotation Orlando Hernandez is done. Lets see if we can make a run at AJ Burnett to solidify our pitching depth. And Wagner makes me nervous he loses control of his pitches we should try and get K. Rod as our closer.
Imagine the 09 Mets:
C. Schneider
1. Delgado
2. Castilla
3. Wright
SS. Reyes
RF. Gathright
CF. Beltran
LF. Church
Ace: Santana
Burnett
Perez
Martinez
Maine
Closer: K. Rod/Pelfrey
….Thats for next year as for this year Go! Mets I see NL East Crown crown coming to Shea. WS maybe soon to come.

No, I think the Mets run a fair amount. Remember Wright and Beltran will steal their share of bases too.
And I think Burnett will fit well in New York. Man, that starting rotation will rack up the strikeouts. But the negative is that Perez and Burnett are combustable. Imagine them being combustable in the playoffs next year, that could easily cost New York two games. Especially in a 5 games series, thats tough.
Pelfrey as the closer would be kinda wierd. I think K-rod would be best. Im not a Mets fan, but Im not sure of the finances New York has. They seem to have a lotta players all around, not sure if they can give K-rod the 10 mil per season and aquire Burnett too. AJ will not come cheap, I assure you.
Oh well. If this is the team, then this will be the team to beat.
yeah looks ok. but the mets arent gonna re-sign Pedro. Hes been too big of a liability. Burnett’s not going to the Mets. I do think they’ll make a run at K-Rod figuring that Wagner is out next year. And as for Pelfrey, he needs to stay in the rotation. Hes been the best starter this year for them other than Santana. And FYI they’re not "our" Mets
thats why we got castillo !. pelfrey being a closer is like demoting him, you’re all wrong. we’re getting k-rod and wagner is out thru ‘09. church isnt a left fielder and gathwright isnt needed and we don’t want him. we are doing good platooning because the mets have great players to be sitting them down for alot of games. easley and castillo are good platooning so is tatis/murphy, church/chavez, schneider/castro. either we’er resigning perez or get cc.
your mets? you have part owenership of the mets? you know how stupid you sound?
I am a die hard Mets fan, but you have to face reality, we most likely will not get Burnett because he won’t want to sign with us.
Gathright is not a asset to us since Beltran is fast and is a base stealer.
We need a strong arm in the outfield like nate mccloud of the pirates. They will mostly not give them up, but he is a liable asset.
Also, you have to think of backups we need decent back ups for bull pen issues. Heilman is having a terrible, he can’t seem to get in the clutch, everytime he is handed a tough situation he seems to blow it. Martinez is decline everyone is in denial but face the facts the Mets don’t need him anymore.
Another aspect you have to look at Delgado’s and oliver perez’s contracts are done at this year at the same time. Due to the need of new players Minaya said they are picking one. Now if you were to pick one who would you choose. There for you can’t have "both" in you imagination line up. An option would be how CC sabathia is also done with his contract in brewers and he could be a replacement for mets if they decide to help delgado over perez.
K. Rod? Come on. we aren’t gonna get a 56+ save pitcher without eit
her losing a great deal of money or a great player.
Gathright is awful! He has an OBP of 301 and no power. His best OPS+ ever was an 88–this is poor. He is at 51 this year–that’s almost pitcher range! He has pretty good range, but not much of an arm.
Why would you want him?
