Why can’t Cleveland get any respect?

by admin on February 10, 2010

Even when we make it in the playoffs we are predicted to be swept or lose in 5 (Cavs) which was predicted in Detroit, but even when we are having a great season so far, and leading in the Central, ( Indians) every one is acting like Detroit is ahead of us. I guess we just can’t get any respect, but we don’t care because we still have the best fans in the country and we will win the Central and go far in the playoffs. and by the way i expect almost everybody to disagree with this, the only people the will agree are Cleveland fans, every one else won’t give us the time of day.

Respect is earned as far as the fans are concerned and the Indians will get that respect when they go to the world series. Fans have good memories, just short ones, and it gets down to "what have you done for me lately". With that being said, I am sure they get plenty of respect from players on other major league teams because they know how good they really are. You can put the Angles in the same group as far as the fans are concerned and they are as good as anybody. By the way, I am not an Indians or Angles fan but respect both of them.

The Indians will win the Central, then you’ll get all the respect you need. The Cavs had a great run, but they just got shell-shocked by the Spurs… they’ll be back though.

Because you haven’t won anything meaningful in 43 years?

If you look around, nobody in baseball gets any pub besides the teams in NY and Bos. Every story is about those three teams.

Part of the reason everyone overlooks the Tribe is they don’t have a superstar who jumps out at you. You really have to watch Sizemore every day to appreciate him, because his numbers DO NOT speak for themselves.

The Tribe can score with the best of them, but they do it without a superstar. Plus, not many people care about SOLID pitching, only DOMINANT pitchers.

They’ll be there in Oct, and they’ll earn the respect eventually. Until then, don’t worry yourself with what other people think.

..and to the Tigers fan – what on Earth are you talking about? Which title are you bragging on?

Detroit Tigers~ WS Bound 2007! February 10, 2010 at 3:46 am

Kris has a VERY valuable point…you have to **WIN** TITLES TO GET RESPECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You’re talking to talk…but you have to walk the walk too!! I also don’t recall the Indians transitioning like my Tigers…from one of the worse to one of the bests! SIT DOWN FOOL!

Good point. Go Tribe!!!!

To ballzy-Borowski isn’t the best closer but he gets the job done even if it includes a heat attack.

Ballzy February 10, 2010 at 3:46 am

Look who your closer is, ya thats why. Your not going anywhere in the playoffs with that dude.

THe Cavs don’t get respect because all they did was beat the Eastern COnference. The East will never get respect, because right now its terrible.

These Indians just haven’t established themselves as a good team yet. Theyve never put together a good fulllseason.

tinybuttremendous February 10, 2010 at 3:46 am

I totally agree. Those people talking about winning, how about Boston. How long was that drought before they won the World Series? Detroit has all the big names, so everyone wants to talk about them. We don’t get respect, big deal, we don’t need the attention anyways. Let’s quietly keep on winning and show these other people what Cleveland has in store.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but I personally have a great deal of respect for the Tribe, and am not an Indians fan. Your team has a very potent hitting lineup, led by Travis Hafner and Grady Sizemore, that no MLB pitcher can afford to take lightly.

Cleveland baseball deserves a LOT more respect than it gets. After all, the team was the subject of the best baseball movie ever — Major League. Cleveland has the second longest non-WS win streak in baseball, and between 1954 and 1985 their record was worse than the Cubs but they couldn’t even get the ‘lovable loser’ fan base. THAT’S lack of respect.

But, look, one guy says that the east coast teams get all the press despite the fact that all I hear about are Cubs Cubs Cubs.Yet another says you have to win titles to get respect, but there are those Cubs again. Another says you don’t have a super star. Grady Sizemore doesn’t get the press he deserves, but. . .well, it’s Cleveland baseball.

You have also the second longest curse, with the curse of Rocky Colavito. Many don’t believe in curses, nor do I, but is there IS one. . .

And, finally, perhaps you should change the name from ‘Indians’. Perhaps the curse is that. A lot of colleges have dropped Indian regalia and perhaps the pros will be next. You used to be the Spiders (thank you, Spidey!!) which would be cool. Maybe the Indian souls don’t like your silly logo.

Still, Cleveland rocks! I can’t wait until you guys smoke the series and then only expansion teams and the Cubs will be left with any noticeable streak.

Well respect needs to be earned. What have we done. Out against DE Roit last year 3 world series trips since Koreran War == No wins. No superbowl trips. Not to worry we will win them all before the end of time.

Morgan February 10, 2010 at 3:46 am

The City is cursed. The Indians stadium, one or the other, is built upon a tribal burial ground. I believe it is Jacobs Field. Helloooooo? But who cares, men, business men don’t believe in that mumbo jumbo.

Cleveland is cursed. We will always be popular, but for all the wrong reasons. Nerds are popular too.

WE have the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame, yet all the good concerts and inductions are held in NY.

Don’t forget, WE have a Federal Reserve. So, Cleveland has to lay low.

Cleveland is AWESOME!!!!!!! If you haven’t experienced that and/or don’t know. Then you would care about all the ridicule.

msabin2 February 10, 2010 at 3:46 am

Because Cleveland sports teams always tend to choke when it really counts for example the Cavs being dominated by the Spurs, the Indians in 1995 and 1997, and don’t get me started on the Browns.

divagirl February 10, 2010 at 3:46 am

You are right about that!

Travis G February 10, 2010 at 3:46 am

I think that Cleveland is a great team! Grady Sizemore is my favorite player. The Tribe has all that they need to win. They just need some wins. Again, I think that they are a good team. And I am a Red Sox fan. I agree with your statement.

justin m February 10, 2010 at 3:46 am

The Indians have no pitching, they have the best offense in all of baseball but everyone knows pitching wins championships.
the spurs are boring the NBA will develop new rules that fave-rs "fast break teams" within the next two years.
however baseball is trying so hard to be "pure" they are going backwards…. in the playoffs hitters will be squeezed.
this is why Cleavland is overrated.

tromb6one February 10, 2010 at 3:46 am

I fthis is being repeated then i Apologize, but being respected doesnt have to come from winning titles. The BOston Red Sox are a prime example. How many years thorughout the 90s were they considered a "top" team one you don’t want to face etc etc. Yet they never won the title. Quite frankly didn’t even get all that close. But everyone had a respect for them because of the long history of the team. Plus it doesnt hurt to have a few of the bigger boppers in the league at the time in mo vaughn and nomah. It all becomes about the individual players when the word respect is brought in. If you don’t have at least 3 household names on your team then you are "ignored" by the rest of the country and thus claim to be disrespected. Don’t whine about it, cuz the team still rocks and i know i wouldnt want to have to face them in a playoff game.
Most teams have learned(spec since the football patriots of ‘01) that this can be used as a platform to push a little bit harder to make yourself seen. It has turned quite a few good teams into great teams. So don’t look at the "disrespect" as a bad thing, but as a secret weapon that your team has over the rest of the league.

kappy February 10, 2010 at 3:46 am

You have to earn respect first. When was the last time Cleveland was even in the playoffs

Jordan K February 10, 2010 at 3:46 am
