Probably not. Usually, when a team is going to retire the number of a player, they won’t use it for any players after that, even if it wasn’t made official.
For example, with Frank Thomas, the #35 was never used by anyone on the White Sox after he left and it was not announced it was going to be retired. But they knew they would be retiring it in the future when he retired so they had no one wear it.
Confusing I know but the Indians most likely would not have used it if they were to retire the number. However, they still could……..
