It was upsetting to see the catcher for the Cleveland Indians hurt so badly after he blocked home plate & collided with a base-runner. It caused me to wonder if there is anything in the rules about catchers blocking home plate illegally. Do they have to have the ball in their possession or meet some other standard before they do so? Or, can they do so anytime at their own discretion, and at their own risk?
