What do you think of my predictions for MLB? What are yours?

by admin on February 19, 2010

AL EAST
New York Yankees 101-61 (one hell of a team this year)
Tampa Bay Rays 90-72 (An impressive team that hasn’t lost their step)
Boston Red Sox 88-74 (Not enough improvement)
Toronto Blue Jays 75-87 (Their pitchers are pathetic other than Roy)
Baltimore Orioles 64-98 (I feel bad for these guys being in the AL East)

AL CENTRAL
Detroit Tigers 90-72 (Cabrera and Granderson can lead this team)
Cleveland Indians 89-73 (Will improve but JUST not enough)
Minnesota Twins 87-75 (With only 1/2 the M&M this team is screwed)
Chicago White Sox 84-78 (This team is getting too old)
Kansas City Royals 75-87 (They’ve done 0 therefore the record stays)

AL WEST
Los Angeles Angels 88-74 (Without K-Rod this teams wins decreases)
Oakland Athletics 80-82 (Their changes were bringing 70 year olds in)
Texas Rangers 72-90 (They need some help)
Seattle Mariners 62-100 (Without Ichiro this team will win w/ Felix and thats it)

NL EAST
New York Mets 99-63 (David Wright is a good leader)
Atlanta Braves 81-81 (Just good enough to get 2nd)
Philadelphia Phillies 80-82 (I’m predicting an off year for Howard)
Florida Marlins 74-88 (Not even Hanley can win a ball game by himself)
Washington Nationals 59-103 (They haven’t even tried to improve)

NL CENTRAL
Chicago Cubs 95-67 (Soriano can be deadly)
Houston Astros 80-82 (Really, the rest of this division sucks)
St.Louis Cardinals 79-83 (Albert Pujols can’t win a game by himself)
Pittsburgh Pirates 72-90 (It’ll be them against the record)
Milwaukee Brewers 69-93 (Their pitching SUCKS w/o C.C)
Cincinnati Reds 69-93 (Name one player on the reds… exactly)

NL WEST
Arizona Diamondbacks 82-80 (Lucky to be in the NL West)
Los Angeles Dodgers 79-83 (Manny’s getting old)
San Francisco Giants 74-88 (Bonds was their face, now their w/o 1)
Colorado Rockies 71-91 (Without Holliday this team will BE Rockie)
San Diego Padres 70-92 (Good pitching, but you’ve gotta hit to win)

ALDS
New York Yankees (101-61)
vs.
Los Angeles Angels (88-74)

The Yankees haven’t gone too far recently so I’ll have to say Angels in 5.

Detroit Tigers (90-72)
vs.
Tampa Bay Rays (90-72)

Detroit seems to step it up at playoff time, and I’m going to take them in 4.

NLDS
New York Mets (99-63)
vs.
Arizona Diamondbacks (82-80)

The NL West is a joke. The race is close every year becauseall of the teams are at about the same average level. None of those teams are a match for a power-house team like the Mets. Mets sweep them.

Chicago Cubs (95-67)
vs.
Atlanta Braves (81-81)

Like I said before, the braves were just good enough to make 2nd place in the east. This doesn’t mean they are better than the clear #1 in the central. Cubbies in a sweep.

ALCS
Detroit Tigers (93-74)
vs.
Los Angeles Angels (91-76)

Losing K-Rod comes back to haunt the Angels here. I don’t think they are able to close out 1 or 2 of the games, and I’m taking the Tigers in 7.

NLCS
New York Mets (102-63)
vs.
Chicago Cubs (98-67)

This one was tough. In the end though, I decieded the curse was going to live on.But Reyes, Delgado, Beltran, AND Wright on the same team is just scary good. Mets in 7.

WORLD SERIES
Detroit Tigers (97-77)
vs.
New York Mets (106-66)

The Grand Daddy of them all. The Mets are a hell of a team. They are dangourous from top to bottom. The sam can be said of the Tigers though. Granderson at the top, Polly (Placido Polonco) following him, Cabrera cleaning up, Inge in the field, and Verlander in the rotation. In the end though it came down to eexperience In past years(at least it seems like to me) the winners of the world series were in world series’s and lost before coming back to win it. Looking at the rosters the Mets have had the following players experience a world series before (must have played in 25 games to be eligible):

-Ramon Castro
-Luis Castillo
-Alex Cora
-Marlon Anderson
-Gary Sheffield

Tigers have:

-Edwin Jackson
-Zach Miner
-Nate Robertson
-Fernando Rodney
-Justin Verlander
-Miguel Cabrera
-Carlos Guillen
-Brandon Inge
-Placido Polanco
-Ramon Santiago
-Curtis Granderson
-Magglio Ordonez
-Marcus Thames

therefore, I must say…

2009 WORLD SERIES CHAMPION: DETROIT TIGERS!!!

feel free to chew me out for putting my team in, but I believe they have a fantastic chance.

AL EAST
New York Yankees 101-61 (one hell of a team this year)–Yeah, gotta agree. They really arent missing anything. Tough to not pin them as the favorites this season.
Tampa Bay Rays 90-72 (An impressive team that hasn’t lost their step)–Nope, but added a Pat Burrell. Rays shoudl be with David Price soon too. That can move in my eyes is to add an extra spark for the later season, when teh Rays are in the hunt but need that one oompf to push them over the top.
Boston Red Sox 88-74 (Not enough improvement)–I actualyl dont think they improved at all. MAybe even gotten worse with Curt Schilling retired now.
Toronto Blue Jays 75-87 (Their pitchers are pathetic other than Roy)-I actually think the Jays have adequate pitching. Jesse LItsch, Shawn Marcum when haelthy arent bad.
Baltimore Orioles 64-98 (I feel bad for these guys being in the AL East)–Orioles really arent going anywhere. THey needed that Mark Teixeria this offeseason

AL CENTRAL
Detroit Tigers 90-72 (Cabrera and Granderson can lead this team)-Yes, but its hard to say they will win 90 games when they ahve like no starting rotation. Verlander will need to greatly rebound off of last year’s nightmare season. Kenny Rogers need a sub 4 ERA. WIllis needs to return and Bondermant too.
Cleveland Indians 89-73 (Will improve but JUST not enough)-89 wins is a lot compared to the fact that this season, they have no CC Sabathia and last season Lee won a CY Young award with the Indians still doing horrible. LEe will fall no where close to last season’s stats.
Minnesota Twins 87-75 (With only 1/2 the M&M this team is screwed)-Twins always manage to have a respectable season. Their hitting is underrated and their youth pitching mite surprise some.
Chicago White Sox 84-78 (This team is getting too old)-Idk, I can see them shocking many. Carlos Quentin was int he running for the MVP before he went down, along with other solid bats like Dye, Alexei Ram, etc this can be a deadly team.
Kansas City Royals 75-87 (They’ve done 0 therefore the record stays)-75 wins, im thinking more of 65. Grienke is the only starting pitcher KC has. HItting is almost non-visible too. Aviles wont hit .330 again.

AL WEST
Los Angeles Angels 88-74 (Without K-Rod this teams wins decreases)-No K-rod, Tex, or Anderson…but add Funetes and Abrue–i dont think 88 wins will win this divisoon. Just a thought
Oakland Athletics 80-82 (Their changes were bringing 70 year olds in)-Matt Holliday, Cabreara, Nomar, Giambi..will be GREAT additioons to their lineup. THe first time in many season where the offense is not a worry, but the starting pitching is. If the youth of that staff could pull off what the twins’ did last year, the A’s are going to win the West.
Texas Rangers 72-90 (They need some help)-I really have the Rangers as the silent horses of the 09′ season. I could see them winning this division. no joke. Hamilton coming off a graet year, Hank Blalock is back. I see them turning a few heads. Keep an eye on Andruw JOnes and Nelson Cruz. Those two could combine for 50 homers next season.
Seattle Mariners 62-100 (Without Ichiro this team will win w/ Felix and thats it)-Ichiro will only miss 8 games, Seattle’s pitching aint horrible, but not great either. HItting minus an Ibanex will hurt. Bedard will need to greatly recover for Mariners success

NL EAST
New York Mets 99-63 (David Wright is a good leader)-MEts got their bullpen relief. 100 wins mite not be outta the picture
Atlanta Braves 81-81 (Just good enough to get 2nd)-I ahve a hard time seeing BRaves really doing good unless CHipper stays healthy for 150 games and their starting pitching starts clicking. Jair Jurrgens mite have a Cole Hamels type of year.
Philadelphia Phillies 80-82 (I’m predicting an off year for Howard)-no way Philles drop this much from a world series ring to a -.500 record. no way. Pat Burrell leaving wont change this team much. I say Phils are good for atleast 88-95 wins.
Florida Marlins 74-88 (Not even Hanley can win a ball game by himself)-Marlins are always scrappy. But Marlins really really this year have no real pieces other than Han Ram. Really!
Washington Nationals 59-103 (They haven’t even tried to improve)-Adam Dunn is trying rite? 40 homers/100 rbis for like 4-5 seasons now.

NL CENTRAL
Chicago Cubs 95-67 (Soriano can be deadly)-Cubs will be one of the best teams next season. But can Rich Harden pitch through a whole season tho?
Houston Astros 80-82 (Really, the rest of this division sucks)-Oswalts(all sigsn pointing that he will go back to Cy Young status)
St.Louis Cardinals 79-83 (Albert Pujols can’t win a game by himself)-Yeah, but guys like Ludwick can help. Chris Carpenter with a stellar spring training too. I see them finishing atleast .500
Pittsburgh Pirates 72-90 (It’ll be them against the record)
Milwaukee Brewers 69-93 (Their pitching SUCKS w/o C.C)-Really think the Brew Crew will go 24 games under .500. 6 less wins than ur KC Royals prediction? Wow. Prince Feilder

commanderkyle February 19, 2010 at 8:07 am

FAIL…FAIL..FAIL. Tigers are good but only the great and luckly make it to the top. They will be in the playoffs but the pitching I see is the ONLY thing holding them back. It held the back when they played against the sox, and it just can’t cut it again. I tired of great bats suffering for poor pitching. Give me four year in the minors and I pitch for that team.

creggz12 February 19, 2010 at 8:07 am

There’s no way the Yankees are going to win this division by 11 games if they win it. The Rays aren’t going to be as good a team this year as they were last year. And the Red Sox improved their pitching, not as much as the Yankees, but they did improve it and had to do so with having to pay a luxury tax after this season which the Yankees don’t have to worry about because of the new stadium.

In the Central I think the Indians will win this division in a close race, but I think you have it pretty right on in this division.

The West is the Angels division to lose, which they won’t.

In the NL East. Theres no way the Mets will win the division by 18 games. The Phillies will be fine and the Marlins have a great young pitching staff.

Central, Yea the Cubs will win but again, not by such a large margin of games.

The West will go to the Dodgers with Manny in the lineup.

I think the Angels and Dodgers will meet in the World Series this year. I just dont see the Yankees doing anything in the playoffs as long as they have A-Rod on the team.

Good job. I praise all of the work you put into your predictions. Detroit is pitching challenged, and I think you know that. But, since you have been so kind to the Mets I accept your predictions. Great effort!
