No win for Mussina?

by admin on February 13, 2010

The Yankees won their game tonight (10-3 vs. chicago white sox) but their starting pitcher, Mike Mussina, didn’t get credited with a win (according to the commentators). Why not?
i appreciate all the answers, but then howcome when andy pettite pitches a great game but then the bullpen screws up, he’s credited with a loss?

The Yankees didn’t get the lead untill after he left the game. Mussina left the game with the scored tied at one.

Yankees have to be ahead when Mussina went out for him to get the win.

Because until the Sox bullpen came apart – your former pitcher Jose Contreras was pitching better that Mussina, and since the Sox can’t score no runs – Mussina did not have a lead, yo.

because he had a 1 run lead and he put to batters on base in the 7th and the bull pen let 1 run come in and in the 7 yankees got some runs got a nd

Mussina was responsible for the runners on base when he was lifted from the game. Meyers (useless) came in,couldn’t get out the lefty (that’s what they pay him to do). The run scored, thus blowing the lead. When Chicago’s bull pen imploded,Proctor had pitched the half inner prior and earned the win.
