I understand there are people in Chicago who are only White Sox fans and those who are only Cubs fans. And the same way with the Yankees and Mets in New York. Since they are different leagues, not like when the Giants and Dodgers played in the NYC area at one time, why are people just fans of one and not the other. From what I’ve heard about Chicago, some Cubs fans hate the White Sox almost as much as they do the Cardinals.
As a Cardinal fan I am sorry somebody thinks we are the worst. I like to think we treat the Cubs fans with some degree of respect when they come for weekend series. I’m sorry if you’ve had bad experiences. But it is one of the oldest rivalries in baseball and in sports, period. .
Actually at one time the St Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Browns of the AL (now the Baltimore Orioles) both played in St. Louis and at the old Sportsman’s Park (later renamed and was the first of the 3 Busch Stadiums) I heard older people saying they were Browns fans, Cards fans, etc. but never had any explanation why.

IN CHICAGO, THE SOUTH SIDE ROOTS FOR WHITE SOX AND NORTH FOR CUBS! IN NEW YORK, THE YARE CLOSER
well since they are both in different leauges they might play each other in the World Series if they make it all they way.
because one teams stadium is on the south side and the other is on the north and the mets play in queens ny and the yankees play in the bronx
Like one of the New York fans mentioned, it’s kind of hard to explain to somebody who doesn’t live in either New York or Chicago.
I was born into a White Sox family, grew up a White Sox fan and will always be a White Sox fan no matter what. The Cubs just weren’t a factor. You just don’t really pay much attention to the other team. Well, I guess you do play some attention because some of your friends and neighbors cheer for the other team, and they’ll give you a razzing if their team is doing well and yours is not.
But generally speaking, no one has time to cheer for two teams. You pick your loyalties, and that’s how it is.
Dude!!! this year we renew the rivalry with the Yankees and the Dodgers also have a rivalry with the Angels. Its true The Dodgers play in LA and the Angels play in Anaheim it all has to do with the fans that follow the team. Anaheim is a more civilized city and LA has a lot of latinos so yeah.
GO DODGERS!!!!!!!!
well it all depends on every ones favorite players or players they hate or cant stand its not because of where ur from but just the mental state of mind that your in thats all
It’s more or less driven by competition with your friends who like the other team. You just like to needle the other guy and vice versa. Unfortunately from those innocent beginnings hatred sometimes grows.
Do you have a question?
as males you cant be fans of both teams either one or the other and if you do like them both then you are regarded as a bandwagon fan and in essence not a "true" fan. i do give females passes if they both like jeter, arod, david wright then its ok but only for girls, i dont want to sound sexist but thats the only way i can expalin it.
Even though they play in different leagues, they can still be rivals — for free agents, newspaper space, the affections of the fans, etc. Rivalry isn’t just about on-field play.
Also, different teams have appeal to different people. In NYC, the Yankees have long been more attractive to Wall Street types and the "upper crust," whereas the Mets (like the Dodgers before them) were the team of the working class and the underdog. So there’s class division as well.
If you don’t live in the New York area (like I do), or the Chicago area, you can never understand.
